Ozark Ike Tee Shirt
Over the 2020 Pandemic, we reached out to friends to make products to both keep idle hands busy and for us to share "products with a story". This is one of them.
Friend of the shop Mike Melhuse is a regular on the OH couch. We met as his grandson and my son were on the same sports team. We re-connected when we realized that he was friends with one of my previous coaches. But we deepened our conversations when we discovered our mutual history with fine art. We spoke with Mike about the "Idle Hands" project and this is what we came up with.
"Ozark Ike" was one of Mike's favorite comic strips growing up. He thought it would be fun to create a few tee shirts with one of his favorite characters on it. Printed locally on 100% Cotton All-American Tees.
Ozark Ike is a newspaper comic strip about dumb but likable Ozark Ike McBatt, a youth from a rural area in the mountains. The strip was created by Rufus A. ("Ray") Gotto while he was serving in the US Navy during WWII. The strip ran from November 12, 1945 to September 14, 1958. Grotto, famously went on to design the New York Mets Logo.
